I don't know when, or why, Antonio first came to Colorado, but he initially shows up in a marriage index on 2 October 1913. This is the day he marries Marietta Rota. They met in an interesting way. Antonio and a friend both wanted wives, so the lady who ran the boarding house where they lived got them in contact with a family in Italy that had a daughter and a niece. Antonio and his friend somehow convinced the families of these two young women to allow them to immigrate to the United States for the purpose of marriage. The niece was Marietta Rota. According to their marriage documents, they applied for a license in Denver and were married on the same day. The wedding was officiated by a Justice of the Peace named Ben Stapleton (the future city mayor), and the event was witnessed by Vittoria Marsella and Thomas W. Duffy. The license says both lived in the town of Lafayette in Boulder County on the day of their wedding.
